What do you think about DC doing ads on the actual panel pages? Do you think it distracts from the art? Would Marvel ever run such ads?

Marvel did this same thing back around 1970 or so.

We also for a time produced two pages on a single board, to save money.

And we also ran enormous ads across the tops of our covers (the only consolation being that, in the earliest discussions, the client wanted them to go across the centers of the covers.)

So yeah, I think that all of this stuff is kinda ugly and unfortunate, but it’s also not the end of the world, and something that clever creators can work around. If Stan Lee and Jack Kirby could manage it, so can the creators of today.

(And, let’s face it, there are relatively few DC books at the moment that wouldn’t be improved by a double-page Twix ad…)

So no, I don’t believe Marvel has any intention of following suit on this. But by that same token, we’ve done enough stupid things over the years that I’d never say never.
